The Sport Centre Semily

The Sport Centre Semily was established in order to manage and operate sports places and sports facilities held by the town. It is a sports hall, a municipal stadium territory and an open-air pool. The SC Semily hall is equipped with a ballroom of 24 x 36 m where you can play volleyball, basketball, floorball, badminton, tennis and other hall sports, and then there is a table tennis room, a gym for aerobics, sauna, squash, solarium and a massage room. There is a hostel of the hotel type with capacity of 34 beds in two- to four-bed rooms, and a restaurant in the Sport Centre Semily. www.sportovni-centrum.cz

Golf

The Golf Club Semily was established in 1963 and its founder was Dr. Ivan Balcar. In 1970, building-up of the golf-course on the left bank of the Jizera River behind local hospital was started. In the 1970´s there were about 20 members of the Golf Club Semily who spent all their spare time building-up of the golf-course and developing their skills. Thanks to these enthusiasts, golf started to take off in Semily in spite of the regent communist regime which barely tolerated golf and frequently called it a bourgeois sport.
In the 1980´s more and more members joined the club and the appearance of the golf-course was changing, too. Primary six-hole golf-course was extended to an eight-hole one, a clubroom was built and equipped with technical facility.
In the 1990´s, a quality driving-range, a new walkway over the Jizera River, and so necessary ninth hole was built by the Golf Club Semily. www.golf.semily.cz

Skiing

When the first snowdrops start to fall down, favourers of winter sports visibly unbend. Conditions for winter pleasures for whole family are more than better in the Podkrkonoší region and hardly anybody can resist the wonderful winter nature, snow-covered slopes and local still, peaceful landscape. Skiing as well as tobogganing on local hills inherently belongs among the winter pastime. Slopes and cross-country tracks offer quality, affordable self-realization for whole family. Basic services are part of the offer: car park, refreshment and season tickets sale. Ski resorts, even the smaller ones, operate night skiing and skiing courses for public.

Paragliding

In spite of small rise of 250 m, there are excellent conditions for gliding with a parachute on the Kozákov hill (744 m above the sea level). An ideal terrain serves well to both experienced flyers and newcomers.

Cycling

Gorgeous and rugged terrain of the Horní Pojizeří attracts more and more cycling favourers. Local hills offer variety of interesting outlooks, often over the Bohemian Paradise and Giant Mountains, which are a reward to each cyclist for frequent steep gradient. Cyclists can use a new net of cycling paths built in 2002. Cyclists of all age and performance groups will enjoy themselves. Cycling paths don´t lack customer services and stores with equipment for cycling.

Mountaineering

Excellent conditions for mountaineering can be found in nearby surroundings: Suché rocks, Vranovský edge, rocks of Klokočí, rocks of Bethlehem and other rock towns of the Bohemian Paradise. Among less known areas we can find Kozinec in Železný Brod.

Water sports, fishery

Suitable conditions for canoeing and rafting can be found on the Jizera River and nearby Kamenice River namely in spring months when the snow melts in the mountains and all rivers at the foothills of Giant Mountains come back to life.
Local clean, mostly trout streams are a paradise for fishermen. Permits with differentiated length of validity are issued by local organization of fishing union, fishing licences are for sale in several points including information centres.

Swimming

Don´t be afraid and have a swim in the Jizera River, it belongs among the cleanest rivers in the whole country. The temperature of the water won´t definitely discourage you, swimming in the coolish water is pleasant and refreshing in summer months.
The open air pool in Semily has recently been under reconstruction. The open air pool with a campsite in the outskirts of the Košťálov community is a very sought-after artificial pond.
